Name formatting requirements

In one sentence
Copy the last name field and the first name field from your ID document, in full and exactly as printed. Do not add anything printed elsewhere on the document. If your keyboard cannot type a character, write it without the mark (ZAREBA for ZARĘBA).

Last name

Enter your birth name, the one in the last name field of your document (labelled "Nom", "Surname", "Apellidos", "Name"). Copy the whole field: if it contains several words, write them all, in the printed order.

First name

Copy the first name field of your document in full, in the printed order. If it lists several names, enter them all. Never split a hyphenated first name.

Read only the section matching your document.

🇫🇷 France

Your document has two last name fields. Enter only the "Nom" field. Never enter the "Nom d'usage" field, even if it is the name you use every day.

Your academic title is printed in its own field ("Doktorgrad", "Akademischer Grad"). It is not part of your name, so do not enter it.

Nobiliary particles and titles (von, zu, Graf, Gräfin, Freiherr), on the other hand, are part of the legal last name and appear in the "Name" field. Enter them.

Your name is printed twice: in the local alphabet, then in Latin characters. Enter the Latin version, in full.

If it shows two spellings joined by OR, copy the whole line, OR included: together, both spellings form your official name.

If the verification still fails

Re-read the last name field and compare it letter by letter with what you entered. One word too many or too few is enough to fail the verification.
Retake the photo. Document flat, well lit, no glare, all four corners visible, both sides if it is a card. Most failures come from the photo.

The Verification ends with the status failed and one of these status codes: IDDV_1706 (last name), IDDV_1707 (first names), IDDV_1709 (first and last name inverted). See the full list of status codes.
